My Beautiful You Friends,
What do you want to be known for?
I was reading Danielle LaPorte’s book, The Fire Starter Sessions, A Soulful + Practical Guide To Creating Success On Your Own Terms and she asked this question: “What do you want to be known for?” on page 35. First, it’s a fabulous question in a book filled with insight and gumption and love and light. Her newer book, The Desire Map, is fabulous too – I HIGHLY recommend both if you are looking for a tool to help you go deeper, to find what it is you are searching for, and to get in touch with how you feel.
I was reading The Fire Starter Sessions, A Soulful + Practical Guide To Creating Success On Your Own Terms on my way to visit my son across the country and I realized I had never really thought about ‘what I want to be known for.’ What I want to do while I am here—yes. How I want to be/live while I am here—yes. But not what I want to be known for.
If you allow yourself to ponder the concept, it’s pretty magical what happens. Here is what happened for me…
What a question… What do I want to be known for? My love, my kindness, my chutzpah in putting my good juju out into the world. I want to be known for loving my family, but even more than that, I want to be known as a shining light in our journey toward each of us finding our good enough-ness—the belief, the faith, the knowing that we matter—that I matter simply because I am me and there is only one Shannon. Just like there is only one you.
On a greater scale, when I reach 100 years+, I want to be able to say that I lived my life fully, that I took care of my self—mind, body, and soul, so that I could live, not just yearn for my potential, but really truly imbue life—the essence… love, joy, laughter, knowing we can manifest our heart’s desires (and knowing what those desires are.)
I want to have soaked up life with every fiber of my being. I want to have sipped it down like my favorite wine. I want to have laughed myself whole and healed myself through forgiveness and gratitude.
I live a very beautiful life right now. The one thing I yearn for more than anything is to become a published author—to be able to share my love of reading and writing, to share my love of a happy ending, or at least one that promises hope. I want to share my characters’ journeys from lack to abundance, from fear to love, from doubt to faith. I do this with the hope that my characters’ journeys will light the way for those still in the dark—whatever that ‘way’ may be.
I was talking to my man today about life and I really, truly believe what I said to him… that our lives rock, that I have everything I want and need and that everything else—all the extra yumminess—is colored sprinkles and sparklers on an already scrumptious cake (my buttermilk, chocolate coca-cola cake, of course.) And I am so, so, so blessed and so, so, so grateful.
What do I want to be known for? For living my life, and loving it.
So, My Beautiful You friends, how about you? Let me know what you think and let’s get this conversation going.
Love and Light, Grace and Ease.
